The longnose hawkfish has a white body with red striping that runs both horizontally and vertically, resembling a plaid pattern. They have great personalities and are also tough, long-lived, and display an interesting sit-and-wait-while-perching style of hunting. They are also the only hawkfish reported to have spawned in captivity, and is a protogynous hermaphrodite, meaning the female longnose hawkfish can change into a male if the dominant male longnose hawkfish is taken out of the picture for any reason.
